MARGHERITA, Oct 29: Unrest gripped the Margherita region following the discovery of a deceased youth found in a drain at Gotamala, located within the Dirok Tea Estate under the Margherita police station.

The deceased, identified as Bichu Toppo (30) and a resident of Tongline in the Dirok Tea Estate under the 83 Margherita Constituency of Tinsukia district, was recovered after locals, passing through the area on Sunday morning, detected a noxious odour and observed the body in the drain. Promptly, the Margherita police were informed, leading to the retrieval of the corpse in the presence of the Margherita executive magistrate.

Notably, Bichu Toppo, employed at Namtok, had been missing since October 23, coinciding with the Durga Puja celebrations. His family had reported his disappearance to the Margherita police station.

Expressing suspicions of a premeditated crime, the family members of the deceased demand that the Margherita police and the Margherita sub-divisional administration take swift action to apprehend those involved in what they believe to be a heinous murder.
