Teacher, youth arrested for alleged sexual harrasment of school girl

DIBRUGARH, Nov 20: Dibrugarh police arrested a teacher of Lezai Higher Secondary School with another youth from Lezai area of Dibrugarh for allegedly sexually harassing the girls.

The accused has been identified as- Atuwar Rahman (48) and Rajesh Thakur(32).

According to police, Atuwar Rahman is the teacher of the Lezai HS school and he had taken the school students for a excursion tour in Sivasagar.

Atuwar Rahman is the resident of Bilasipara in Dhubri while Rajesh Thakur is the resident of Lezai in Dibrugarh.

“The girls have complained that Atuwar Rehman gave them vodka drink during the excursion tour. Inside the bus, the girls were offered Vodka and when they have taken Vodka, the teacher tried to sexually harass the girls,” said a police official.

A case no 110/2025 u/s 75(2) BNS R/W sec 10 of POCSO Act and R/W sec 75/77 of Juvenile Justice  Act was registered at Borbaruah police station.

Rajesh Thakur is not associated with the school. He is a resident of Lezai and went to the excursion with them.

Both the individuals were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

Police officials stated that the investigation is underway to ascertain further details related to the incident. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken as per law to ensure justice.
