NAGAON: In a major breakthrough, the superintendent of police (SP) Navaneet Mahanta, leading the Nagaon police, successfully apprehended the notorious teer mafia leader Babul Ali, also known as Ahmed Ali, in Nagaon town on Tuesday night. The arrest took place at a secret location where Babul Ali was hiding. Along with the arrest, the police confiscated a white Grand I20 car with the registration number AS 02 AJ 0450, five mobile handsets, and a sum of Rs 67,000 in cash.
Sources within the Nagaon police administration revealed that Babul Ali had been on the run for over a month, evading capture. Babul Ali is a prominent figure in the illegal teer gambling business, earning lakhs of rupees daily. It is estimated that he oversees a network of over a thousand teer vendors operating across the district. The apprehension of Babul Ali is expected to deal a significant blow to the entire teer gambling empire in Nagaon.
Under the dedicated efforts and close supervision of SP Navaneet Mahanta, the Nagaon police have launched a vigorous crackdown on teer mafias and vendors throughout the district. Since assuming office, the SP has spearheaded numerous operations resulting in the arrest of 15 teer bookies and vendors in the town in the past few days.
