Nagaon police arrest 38 persons involved in drugs peddling, teer, gambling & illegal arms dealings

NAGAON, June 4:
 Nagaon police, under special supervision of new superintendent of Police, Nagaon, Navaneet Mahanta have arrested over 38 persons allegedly involved in drugs peddling, teer gambling as well as illegal arms dealings from across the district here within last 10 days.
Simultaneously, police also seized large quantities of suspected narcotics like heroin worth several lakhs of rupees and a pistol along with 2 round bullets from the possessions of those arrested persons, sources said.
Sources also claimed that over 20 cases were registered at various police stations under NDPS Act while over 5 cases were registered under AGB Act. Besides, during these days, one case has been registered for smuggling of illegal arms and ammunition in the district too, sources added further.
Sources from Nagaon police stated that police from Rupahihat PS arrested two persons identified as Sultan Ahmed and Faruque Abdulla along with a pistol and 2 rounds of bullets from greater Khatual area under Rupahihat PS.
While speaking to some local media persons here on Saturday evening, new SP Navaneet Mahanta asserted that the ongoing drives against drugs, teer, gambling, illegal arms dealings as well as other forms of crime would be intensified more across the district in the days to come.
“No compromise will be there to curb all those illegal activities in the district,” SP Mahanta asserted further.
