KHERONI, June 11: The MP of 3 Diphu (Autonomous) District Parliamentary Constituency, Horen Sing Bey, branded the All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC), led by former IAS officer JI Kathar, as a communal party and said it was trying to polarise the hill districts in Assam.
Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, who was the Chief Guest at the Mass Joining Program to the BJP at Deramukam in West Karbi Anglong district, reiterated that he will continue to vouch for the implementation of 244 (A) of the Constitution of India till an autonomous state is achieved.
The public meeting of the BJP was attended in large numbers by the people, in which opposition party workers of the Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC), Congress, All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC), etc. of Socheng Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) Constituency and Kopili MAC Constituency numbering 697 joined the ruling saffron party.
Among those who joined the BJP were ASDC leaders Biren Teron, Ramsing Terang, and Longwel Engti of West Karbi Anglong.
Attacking the president of the APHLC, JI Kathar, the MP, Horensing Bey, said that the peace brought by the BJP in Dima Hasao, West Karbi Anglong, and Karbi Anglong is being disturbed by the APHLC by playing the communal card.
MP Bey said, “APHLC is the most communal party at present, which is spreading hatred among Honghari (native Karbi practitioners) and Christians in our districts. One should be very careful and avoid the party.”
The CEM Ronghang said that one must be in the ruling party for an autonomous state, infrastructural development, jobs, and progress. During the time of the ASDC’s rule, there were boycotts, hatred, and ethnic clashes. There was no peace in the districts. There were bandhs. The former ASDC leaders are now in the BJP, as they see a future in it.
MLAs Rupsing Teron, Bidya Sing Engleng, and Darsing Ronghang; the president of the BJP; the West Karbi Anglong District Committee; Radip Ronghang; and others were at the meeting.
