DALGAON, Sept 14: The increasing incidents of thefts in Dalgaon and Kharupetia areas of Darrang district have become a major concern for the police. Two days ago, a temple in Kharupetia Ghoshpatti was targeted by thieves. Prior to that, four idols made of Ashtadhatu were stolen from the Kharupetia Jain Temple. However, the stolen idols were recovered through a police investigation. On Wednesday night, thieves struck again, breaking the donation boxes and looting the historic Burhagohain Shiv Temple and Sani Temple located at Dalgaon Chariali, approximately 200 meters away from the Dalgaon Police Station. During the same night, thieves also targeted a nearby mosque, breaking its donation box and stealing money. These thefts have angered people of all religions. Mangaldai MP Dilip Saikia visited the stolen temple site, spoke with local residents, and assured them that CCTV cameras would be installed in the temples. Saikia instructed the Dalgaon Police, Kharupetia Police, and the Darrang superintendent of police to take strict action against the thieves. These serial theft incidents have raised concerns in Dalgaon and Kharupetia, putting pressure on the local police.
