NAGAON, July 3: Two persons, identified as Abdul Aziz and Akhtar Hussain from Juria Jengoni village under Dhing Police Station, were grievously injured in an attack by a stranded Royal Bengal tiger from Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary, due to flooding in the sanctuary.
The injured individuals were immediately admitted to a local hospital in critical condition right after the incident, according to sources.
Following the incident, a large number of locals armed with sticks and other weapons chased the tiger towards the railway track. Forest personnel from Nagaon Wildlife Forest Division and Nagaon Sadar territory range rushed to the spot to control the situation. They are currently attempting to guide the tiger back towards the nearby forest of the wildlife sanctuary.
In response to the incident, district commissioner of Nagaon, Narendra Kr Shah, issued an official notification on Wednesday promulgating prohibitory orders under Section 163 BNSS across the affected localities. The order prohibits assembly of five or more persons in one place, carrying arms or other lethal weapons, and making loud noises in the area until further notice. These restrictions have been enforced immediately in the concerned area to ensure the safety of the tiger.
