BISWANATH CHARIALI, Aug 3: Two tiger poachers were apprehended on Thursday by the forest department in Biswanath Chariali. The poachers, identified as Kanai Daimari and Doda Basumatary, both residents of Balijuri, were caught with four handmade pistols in connection with a tiger poaching incident that occurred inside the Nameri National Park several months ago. This recent arrest brings the total number of nabbed tiger poachers to seven, with one poacher still evading authorities.
According to a forest official, all the apprehended poachers were actively involved in hunting wild animals within the confines of Nameri National Park and engaging in the illegal trade of tiger skin, bones, nails, claws, and skulls. The forest department had previously apprehended two tiger poachers in possession of handmade pistols and various tiger body parts a few months back.
This continued crackdown on tiger poaching is part of the forest department’s ongoing efforts to protect and preserve the biodiversity of the national park. The illegal trade in tiger parts poses a significant threat to the survival of these majestic creatures, and the authorities remain vigilant in their pursuit of those engaged in such illegal activities.
