KOKRAJHAR, June 23: The training of 100 Yoga Teachers under the PM Shri Gaonwe Gaonwe Jog Maha-Abhiyan commenced on Monday at the Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA) Indoor Stadium, marking a major step towards promoting health, wellness and holistic living at the grassroots level.
The ten-day training programme is being conducted by certified and experienced yoga instructors and is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to lead yoga sessions within their communities.
During the training, participants will receive instruction in various yoga asanas, breathing exercises and yogic practices, along with an understanding of the physical, mental and emotional benefits associated with regular yoga practice.
Officials said the initiative seeks to develop a cadre of trained yoga volunteers who will serve as wellness ambassadors and encourage healthy lifestyles among people of all age groups.
Upon completion of the training programme on July 4, the newly trained Yoga Teachers will be deployed across villages in Kokrajhar district to conduct yoga sessions, awareness campaigns and community outreach activities.
The initiative aims to strengthen preventive healthcare measures and foster a culture of fitness, mindfulness and well-being at the village level.
The PM Shri Gaonwe Gaonwe Jog Maha-Abhiyan was launched by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on the occasion of the 12th International Day of Yoga.
The programme envisions taking the message of health and wellness to every village and household across the state.
The campaign seeks to inspire communities to adopt yoga as part of their daily routine under the guiding principles of “Yoga for Self, Yoga for Society and Yoga for Humanity.”
Officials expressed confidence that the initiative would help improve public awareness about the benefits of yoga while contributing to healthier and more resilient communities through sustained grassroots engagement.
