BJP candidates Tuliram Ronghang (111-Rongkhang LAC) and Habe Teron (112-Amri LAC) began the day by performing traditional Karbi rituals, seeking ancestral blessings before proceeding to the District Commissioner’s office to file their nominations.

A large procession accompanied the candidates, with thousands of party workers carrying flags and raising slogans, bringing parts of Hamren to a standstill.

The show of strength is being seen as an attempt to consolidate support ahead of the polls.

Senior party leaders were present during the filing of nominations, including Diphu Lok Sabha MP Amarsing Tisso and incumbent MLA Darsing Ronghang, who, despite being denied a ticket this time, extended his support to the party’s nominees.

Several Executive Members and MACs of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council also joined the event.

“The overwhelming turnout reflects the public’s faith in the BJP’s development agenda,” Tuliram Ronghang said, expressing confidence of victory.

Meanwhile, candidates from other parties also filed their nominations across the hill districts. APHLC leader Bikram Hanse filed from 112-Amri LAC, while CPI(ML)-L candidate Robi Kumar Phangcho and APHLC’s Sarkiri Rongphar filed nominations from 109-Howraghat.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has also intensified its preparations, with General and Expenditure Observers arriving in districts across Assam to oversee poll-related arrangements.

Officials said the observers will monitor logistics and security, track campaign expenditure, and ensure adherence to the Model Code of Conduct.

With nominations underway and monitoring mechanisms in place, the electoral contest in the Karbi Anglong region is expected to be closely fought.
