BILASIPARA, Feb 26: A two-day training and awareness programme for farmers and livestock rearers was held at Bahalpur under a joint initiative of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, the Eastern Regional Station of National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) and the Dhubri Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) under Assam Agricultural University.
As part of the “Farmer–Livestock Rearer Livelihood Enhancement” initiative, improved ducklings, poultry chicks, livestock feed, tin sheets and other essential inputs were distributed to over 200 farmers from Dhubri district. Experts from NDRI, including Dr Anupam Chatterjee, Dr Dilip Kumar Mondal and Dr Champak Bhakat, highlighted the income-generating potential of modern livestock practices, emphasising women’s economic empowerment.
Dr Fakr Uddin Ali Ahmed, Head Scientist at Dhubri KVK, spoke on scientific livestock management, covering feed planning, vaccination, sanitation, disease control and improved breeding techniques. The programme concluded with distribution of the improved livestock and inputs to participating farmers, aiming to strengthen rural livelihoods sustainably.
