The two have been identified as Dipankar Neog and Partha Pratim Pathak.

Pathak who worked with Nikumoni Baruah, wife of the biker Prasenjit Baruah, told newspersons on being arrested that he was trapped by Nikumoni and Mukul Chetia, a junior engineer of the Town and Country Planning department, both of who had been arrested on Thursday and remanded to two days police custody.

Meanwhile, Dipankar Neog is alleged to have contacted Mohen Nayak.

Mohen Nayak, the prime suspect, sought a lift from Prasenjit Baruah at Solmara on Monday night before attacking Baruah from the pillion seat with a sickle after going a certain distance.

Baruah, who was grievously injured in the neck, fell to the ground along with the bike and Nayak. Locals caught Nayak and rushed Baruah to JMCH, where he received treatment and 20 stitches in his neck.

Nayak, a resident of Meleng, told police that he had been hired by Prasenjit’s wife and Mukul Chetia. He alleged that Prasenjit’s wife had paid him Rs 5000 and had promised to give him another Rs 10000 after the crime was committed.

Prasenjit Baruah, however, denied that his wife could be in any way involved in attempting to murder him. It may be mentioned that Prasenjit Baruah works in Guwahati and resides there.
