A source said that the two arrested on Thursday, Mukul Chetia, a junior engineer of the Town and Country Planning Department, and the wife of Prasenjit Baruah, the biker, are also allegedly involved in the murder plot as confessed by Mohen Nayak, the main accused.

Mohen Nayak had sought a lift from Prasenjit Baruah at Solmara on Monday night and attacked Baruah from the pillion seat with a sickle after covering a certain distance.

All three have been charged under Sections 188 (2)/109 of BNS in case number 155/24 under Pulibor Police Station.

Baruah, who was grievously injured in the neck, fell to the ground along with the bike and raised the alarm. People from the locality caught Nayak and rushed Baruah to JMCH, where he received treatment, including 20 stitches to his neck.

Nayak, who is a resident of Meleng here, told police that he had been hired by Prasenjit’s wife and Mukul Chetia. He alleged that Prasenjit’s wife had paid him Rs 5,000 and promised to give him another Rs 10,000 after the crime was committed.

It may be mentioned that Prasenjit Baruah works in Guwahati and resides there.

It is alleged that Mukul Chetia had helped Baruah’s wife get permission to build their house at Sonarigaon, and Prasenjit’s wife may have come into contact with him during that time.

Prasenjit Baruah, however, told newspersons that his wife could not, in any way, be involved in attempting to murder him.
