GUWAHATI, Aug 11: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam on Thursday arrested two state government employees red handed while accepting bribes.
The officials – Gopinath Das, extra writer, sub registrar, Tamulpur and Lohit Phukan, Inspector of Excise, Bokakhat, were caught red handed in two different operations transpired by the Directorate.
According to the Directorate, Gopinath Das had demanded bribes from the complainant for providing marriage certificates pertaining to a couple.
The bribe money was seized from Das’ possession and a case has been registered in ACB police station vide ACB PS case no – 26/2022 u/s 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) against Das.
In another operation outlined by a team of the Directorate, Lohit Phukan, posted at the office of Inspector of Excise in Bokakhat was apprehended on the spot while accepting the demanded bribe money.
