GOSSAIGAON, May 6: On Sunday evening, police conducted a major operation near Magistrates Colony Habrubil in Gossaigaon town, and successfully arrested a young man with a large quantity of brown sugar, police sources stated.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Gossaigaon Police Station led by Inspector Nidul Gogoi and accompanied by Town Sub-Inspector Hirak Kumar Senapati carried out the raid and arrested a notorious drug dealer identified as Samsul Haque.
Following the initial arrest of Samsul Hoque, the police intensified their investigation and apprehended another drug dealer identified as Hasen Ali from Babubil village under Gossaigaon Sub-Division. During the search operation, the police seized 18 small plastic containers filled with brown sugar from both individuals.
In addition to the drugs, the police also seized a Honda scooter bearing registration no. AS 16 K 4861 and a CBZ motorcycle beard NG registration no. AS 16 D 0890 from their pocession. It is noteworthy that both Samsul Haque and Hasen Ali had long been allegedly involved in drug peddling in the region, pushing the younger generation towards addiction, according to concerned locals.
Police have filed a case against the two accused and sent them to judicial custody on Monday. While reports of drug activity from various parts of the Gossaigaon sub-division have surfaced from time to time, the arrest of these drug peddlers near the Magistrate Colony and surrounding areas has sparked mixed reactions among the local conscious community.
