Guwahati, Jan 2: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya virtually inaugurated the foundation stone for the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Regional Branch in Assam on Tuesday.
The branch, located at Rani in Kamrup Rural district, will aid in disease surveillance and monitoring. Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, MP Queen Oja, and MLA Hemanga Thakuria were among those who attended the online ceremony.
Furthermore, Dr. Mandaviya laid the foundation stones for six other state branches and BSL-3 labs in various states from the NCDC in New Delhi. He also inaugurated a temporary NCDC Regional branch in Bhopal and dedicated an auditorium and Library block as part of the upgraded NCDC, Delhi.
According to Dr. Mandaviya, these branches will assist in dealing with region-specific diseases and will enhance healthcare infrastructure at the regional, district, and block levels.
He emphasised the importance of pandemic preparedness and disease surveillance for the protection against major disease outbreaks, particularly for the most vulnerable.
