Foundation Stone Laid For NCDC Branches In 9 States

GUWAHATI, Jan 2: The Union minister of health and family welfare Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of the Regional National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Delhi along with other 9 states including Assam, said an official statement.

The foundation stone was laid through a virtual ceremony from new auditorium complex, New Delhi.

The laying of foundation stone of regional NCDC, Guwahati, Assam was graced by the august presence of Keshav Mahanta, minister for health and family welfare etc., along with Queen Oja, member of parliament, LS Guwahati, from NHM conference hall.

“This Regional Branch of NCDC will be built on the allotted plot next to Rani CHC, Kamrup. The NCDC branches in the states will support the state government in timely disease surveillance and monitoring and will enable early warning leading to timely intervention based on evidence gathered from the field,” it added.

The statement further said that the state branch will coordinate with NCDC HQ at New Delhi with real time sharing of data and information. The Regional NCDC branches would also be crucial in ensuring timely availability of updated guidelines in the state and entire northeast so that accurate scientifically backed information can be disseminated easily.

The minister for health and family welfare Keshav Mahanta after completion of the ceremony had an interaction session with the journalists.

The Health Minister said that “This new regional NCDC center will surely help in strengthening the health system in the state by effectively detecting, investigating, monitoring, preventing, and combating Public health emergencies and disease outbreaks in the State. The regional branch of NCDC will provide a boost to public health infrastructure with prompt surveillance, rapid detection and monitoring of diseases thereby enabling early interventions in this NE region of the country.”

The meeting was also graced by Avinash P Joshi, additional chief secretary, H&FW, Dr LS Singh, senior regional director, MoH&FW, Kamaljit Talukdar, ACS, DHS (FW), Dr Kareng Rongpipi (I/C) director of health services, Dr Manoj Kumar Choudhury, ED, NHM, Assam, Pankaj Chamuah, OSD, NHM Assam, Dr NS Tishya, SSO-IDSP and team, NHM state and health officials and concerned development partners.
