Addressing reporters on Sunday at a press conference held at the UPPL central office in Kokrajhar, UPPL vice president and former MCLA of BTC, Afjal Haque Sarkar, stated that peace and tranquility have prevailed in the Bodoland region since the signing of the BTR Peace Accord on January 27, 2020, which witnessed an environment of healthy integration and unity among the communities.

He said that the BTR region is now progressing in various developmental aspects and welfare sectors as people across communities express their faith and belief in the UPPL party and BTR government.

He mentioned that the BTR government, under the leadership of Pramod Boro, the chief executive member of the Bodoland Territorial Region, has launched various missions and visions to drive developmental progress across the region by involving citizens in social welfare initiatives.

Sarkar stated that better governance is prevailing in the BTR, and accordingly, the developmental issues of society are being addressed effectively. He mentioned that nearly 10,000 women SHGs have received financial support of Rs 25,000 each across all districts of the BTR in the last four years under the Mainao Swrang Bithangkhi. He also noted that more than 27,600 needy individuals were given financial assistance of Rs 5,000 each under Onsungthai Bithangkhi, and 21,700 students received financial support of Rs 5,000 each under Giyan Swrang Bithangkhi from the BTR government.

He stated that over 700 religious institutions received Rs 2 lakh each under the Alari Swrang Bithangkhi initiative of the BTR government.

Sarkar said that the BTR government, under Pramod Boro’s leadership, has implemented various schemes and welfare initiatives for the common masses since it assumed power in the region.

On the by-elections in Sidli LAC, Sarkar expressed confidence that the UPPL candidate, backed by the NDA alliance, Nirmal Kumar Brahma, is set for a clear victory as people from all communities are coming forward to support and vote for the UPPL candidate. He added that Nirmal Kumar Brahma, the UPPL candidate backed by the NDA alliance, is expected to win the Sidli LAC by-election scheduled for November 13 by a significant margin.

He also said that the UPPL party and NDA alliance partners are working dedicatedly for the welfare and development of citizens across the region and state. He noted that massive campaign meetings in favor of NDA alliance candidate Brahma are ongoing across Sidli LAC.

In response to a question about the Opposition, Sarkar said that the Opposition BPF party is an aimless entity with no initiatives for human welfare in the current scenario. He remarked that the Opposition party has been unable to present any manifesto or welfare activities during the Sidli LAC by-election. He alleged that the BPF party neglected the welfare and upliftment of the common masses during its 17-year rule in the Bodoland Territorial Council, depriving citizens of essential welfare services.

He stated that the BPF party and Hagrama Mohilary have become irrelevant to citizens, as Mohilary failed to address the grievances and developmental needs of the region.

Sarkar strongly criticised the BPF party and Hagrama Mohilary for their unwarranted and fabricated remarks on BTR’s CEM Pramod Boro, saying that the common masses now disregard the influence of Mohilary and the BPF party, leading to frustration among BPF leaders.
