MANGALDAI, June 13: Veteran entrepreneur and senior-most director of the SRD Group of Companies, Mukul Chandra Deka, was felicitated on Friday evening following his appointment as a Professor of Practice by Nagaon University.
The felicitation was organised during Johkalir Anusthan (Event of the Summer), a special programme hosted by the socio-cultural organisation Gipsy Guild in Mangaldai.
Deka was honoured with a citation, gamosa, japi and other traditional items in recognition of the prestigious academic distinction.
Addressing the gathering, Deka stressed the importance of perseverance, dedication and consistency in achieving success.
“If you keep trying consistently, you will achieve success in every field you choose, including business and entrepreneurship,” he said.
Reflecting on his 51-year journey in business, Deka credited the support and unity of his joint family for his success.
He observed that a joint family system provides a strong foundation for entrepreneurship and business growth.
Senior journalist Mayukh Goswami highlighted the significance of the Professor of Practice designation, noting that the position enables accomplished professionals to share practical knowledge and bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world experience.
Retired senior government official Haren Kakati also spoke on the occasion, highlighting Deka’s contributions not only as a successful entrepreneur but also as a socially committed individual.
The programme began with a welcome address by Gipsy Guild secretary Jayanta Deka, who outlined the objectives of the event and the organisation’s commitment to promoting cultural and intellectual activities in the region.
The evening also marked the launch of Gipsy Guild’s monthly film screening initiative, under which critically acclaimed films will be screened on the second or fourth Friday of every month.
The inaugural screening featured the Oscar-nominated Hindi film Laapataa Ladies.
The recognition by Nagaon University is being viewed as an acknowledgement of Deka’s longstanding contributions to industry and entrepreneurship and his potential role in mentoring and inspiring future generations through practical academic engagement.
