SIVASAGAR, Aug 18: Jhanji Hemnath Sarma College played host to a national-level workshop on ‘Capacity Building and Personality Development’, organised by the Social Science Research Cell of the college. With the aim of harnessing women’s inner potential and fostering independence and employability, the seminar was orchestrated in collaboration with the NSS Unit and sponsored by the National Commission for Women.
The event commenced with a warm welcome speech by Dr Manjit Gogoi, the college principal. Dr Santana Dutta, the coordinator, eloquently presented the workshop’s objectives. Dr Archana Bhattacharyya, retired associate professor & head of the English department at Kakojan College, graced the occasion as a resource person, shedding light on various facets of women’s empowerment. She delved into the essentials of capacity building and personality development, emphasising the nurturing and fortification of skills, abilities, and personal resources.
The second technical session saw Debashis Sarmah, director of Career Choice, a prominent social organisation in the state, addressing the attending girl students. He underscored the significance of information, thought, belief, and attitude in the process of capacity building. Sarmah elucidated that leadership transcends mere rank or position; instead, it revolves around inspiring teamwork and effective communication skills.
Dr Shahiuj Zaman Ahmed, an assistant professor in the History department at SPP College, Namti, enriched the workshop as a resource person. His session revolved around ‘Digital Literacy and the Effective Use of Social Media’, highlighting the modern avenues for communication and self-expression.
In the concluding phase, Sajidul Haque Borborah, associate professor and head of the History department, offered his insights as a resource person. The workshop saw active participation from a total of 300 undergraduate and postgraduate students hailing from diverse colleges across both the Sivasagar and Jorhat districts. The interactive platform allowed students to engage with the resource persons and exchange their thoughts on various empowerment aspects.
