KOKRAJHAR, Feb 19: A one-day district level workshop on “Making Utility Items from Water Hyacinth” held successfully at PM Shri Kokrajhar Girls HS School in Kokrajhar on Wednesday, under the scheme Environment Education Programme (EEP), an initiative of Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Govt of India implemented by Assam Science Technology and Environment Council, Guwahati.
The workshop was inaugurated by the District Programme Officer, SSA Biju Basumatary. Dr Sanjib Brahma, Vice Principal, Science College, Kokrajhar was invited as resource person to conduct the theoretical session. Chakramani Brahma, District Coordinator, EEP, Kokrajhar explained the aims and objectives of the propgramme.
The practical sessions were conducted by experienced 4 resource persons- Monendra Koch, Demonstrator, Tipkai HS School; Kabita Nath Basumatary, A/T, Kokrajhar Girls HS School; Ganapati Brahma, A/T, PM Shri Dotma HS School & Jwngsar Jwhwlao Basumatary, Block Coordinator, ASC, Gossaigaon. During the workshop, participants were trained to prepare useful items from water hyacinths, encouraging eco-friendly practices and sustainable utilisation of natural resources. The hands-on training helped the participants gain practical knowledge and creative skills. During valedictory session, EEP handbooks for school eco club and certificates for participation were distributed among the participants.
In the event 80 teachers from 40 schools participated, the programme concluded successfully with appreciation from the attendees, highlighting the importance of such skill-based and environmentally conscious initiatives.
