TEZPUR, June 19: A district-level orientation and coordination meeting was held on Thursday at Conference Hall-II of the Office of the District Commissioner, Sonitpur, as part of the year-long celebration of Janajatiya Gaurav Varsh (November 15, 2024 – November 15, 2025).
The meeting also marked the beginning of the district rollout of two key tribal welfare initiatives launched by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India—Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA) and PM-JANMAN.
According to an official statement, the meeting was chaired by District Commissioner Ankur Bharali and attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners Kabita Kakati Konwar and Twahir Alam, CDCs Dyotiva Bora (Dhekiajuli) and Manash Saikia (Naduar), Assistant Commissioners, heads of various departments, representatives from the Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP), tribal organisations, and other key stakeholders.
The initiatives aim to foster inclusive socio-economic development among tribal communities through targeted Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaigns and the implementation of a Benefit Saturation Camp Action Plan.
In Sonitpur, these programmes will be carried out between June 15 and July 15, 2025, with a strong focus on last-mile delivery and convergence of Central and State government schemes at the grassroots level.
Special emphasis has been placed on raising awareness around Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), with efforts dedicated to screening, counselling, and preventive education in tribal areas.
To mark World Sickle Cell Awareness Day, a special session was conducted under the theme “Global Action, Local Impact: Empowering Communities for Effective Self-Advocacy.”
Dr Pradip Kumar Sarma, SDM&HO (SH), led the session with a detailed presentation on early diagnosis, community awareness, and strategies for prevention.
As part of the campaign, five selected beneficiaries under ITDP were ceremoniously provided with home solar panels, agricultural water pumps, and other essential livelihood tools.
These measures reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring the timely delivery of entitlements to tribal households.
The implementation plan includes ten dedicated camps across six blocks, covering 40 villages in Sonitpur district.
Services to be delivered include caste certificate issuance, enrolment in welfare schemes, access to healthcare and livelihood services, Aadhaar enrolment, banking and digital access, agricultural support, and real-time data collection of eligible beneficiaries.
District Commissioner Bharali called on all departments and field-level officials to ensure active participation and coordination to achieve extensive outreach and saturation.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to tribal empowerment, equity, and inclusive development through sustained and collaborative efforts.
