GUWAHATI, Feb 13: On Monday, the NSS Cell of Gauhati University orchestrated a captivating event titled ‘Yuva Sambad’ at the Phanidhar Datta Seminar Hall within the Gauhati University Campus. The event witnessed esteemed dignitaries including Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal, SM VSM, director of the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) in Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. Jangjilong, regional director of NSS, NER, Guwahati, joined as the guest of honour, accompanied by Captain Kavitha Vasupalli from NIMAS.
Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal captivated the audience with a motivational address, advocating for the pursuit of adventure sports. He elaborated on the educational, physical, and mental benefits associated with such endeavours, inspiring the volunteers to embrace adventure as a part of their personal growth.
The event also featured an Inter-College Elocution Competition centered around the theme ‘Role of Youth for Viksit Bharat @2047’, wherein participants showcased their oratory skills. Winners were felicitated with trophies and certificates for their commendable performances.
Dr Ranjan Kr Kakati, the director of Students’ Welfare and programme coordinator of the NSS Cell at Gauhati University, extended a warm welcome to all attendees and emphasised the potential of the North East region as a hub for adventure sports. He urged the youth to consider adventure sports as a viable career path, highlighting the region’s natural allure for such activities.
Dr Kakati extended heartfelt gratitude to all participants, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, as well as Dr Rituparna Borah, NSS P.O., and the GU campus volunteers for their invaluable contributions. Special appreciation was also extended to the esteemed jury members, Dr Baharul Ali and Dr Idris Ghajnabi of Gauhati University, for their unwavering support in organising the event.
