GUWAHATI, July 17: BMW Group India has reached unprecedented milestones in the first half of 2023, setting new records for sales across all its brands – BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad. The company has reported the highest-ever half-year, quarter, and June sales, with a total of 5,867 cars (BMW and MINI) and 4,667 motorcycles (BMW Motorrad) sold. BMW accounted for 5,476 units, while MINI contributed 391 units to the sales figures.
Mr. Vikram Pawah, President of BMW Group India, expressed his delight at the achievement and emphasized the company’s commitment to customer satisfaction. He highlighted the company’s focus on providing class-leading comfort, performance, and aesthetics, stating that every product launched this year has garnered immense demand. Pawah also attributed the success to the emotional and digital experiences offered by the brands, including initiatives such as Joytown and The House of Forwardism, which have strengthened customer connections and attracted new buyers.
BMW Group India’s dominance in the electric luxury segment was highlighted, with a diverse electric portfolio that includes models like the BMW i7, BMW iX, BMW i4, and MINI SE. The company delivered eleven times more electric vehicles in the first half of 2023 compared to the same period last year. The BMW iX emerged as the best-selling battery electric vehicle in the luxury car segment in India, while the BMW Group Dealer Network’s premium charging infrastructure in 35 cities played a crucial role in supporting the growth of electric mobility.
BMW’s sales performance was remarkable, with a total of 5,476 units sold, representing a 5% increase. The BMW Sports Activity Vehicles (SAV) category contributed over 50% to the sales volumes, with the newly introduced BMW X1 making a significant impact and accounting for more than 20% of sales. The BMW X1’s combination of style, versatility, and driving pleasure has made it highly popular, particularly among young customers with an active lifestyle. The launch of the new BMW X5 is expected to further strengthen the momentum in SAV sales.
The BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine emerged as the best-selling sedan, capturing nearly 20% of sales. The BMW Luxury Class, including models such as the BMW 7 Series, BMW i7, BMW X7, and XM, experienced significant growth, with sales more than doubling (+128%). The demand for the BMW i7, in particular, has been exceptional, solidifying its position as the epitome of luxury. Due to high demand, the BMW 7 Series, BMW i7, and BMW X7 currently have a waiting period of four months.
MINI achieved impressive sales figures with 391 units sold, representing a 3% increase. The locally produced MINI Countryman was the top performer, accounting for 63% of sales, followed by the iconic MINI Hatch at 20%. The all-electric MINI 3-Door Cooper SE also performed well, becoming the third-highest selling MINI model in India, with a 14% share of sales.
BMW Motorrad recorded remarkable growth with 4,667 units sold, a significant 50% increase. Leading the sales volumes were the ‘Made in India’ models – BMW G 310 R, BMW G 310 RR, and BMW G 310 GS, which collectively accounted for nearly 90% of sales. Other popular models included the BMW S 1000 RR, BMW R 1250 GS / GSA, and BMW C 400 GT scooter.
