GUWAHATI, May 23: In a significant step towards strengthening reproductive healthcare in Assam, the Institute of Human Reproduction (IHR), Guwahati, has been officially certified as a Level 2 ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology) Clinic, ART Bank, and Surrogacy Clinic.
The recognition was conferred during a state-level certificate distribution ceremony held at Janata Bhawan, Dispur, as part of an initiative led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Health Minister Ashok Anand Singhal.
According to an official statement, IHR is among the first batch of institutions in Assam to receive these certifications, which are granted under the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021.
The Act mandates strict compliance with national standards concerning infrastructure, documentation, qualified personnel, patient consent, and ethical medical practices in ART services.
The certification affirms IHR’s adherence to the stringent regulatory framework laid down by the Government of India.
It further reinforces the institute’s reputation for delivering ethical, transparent, and high-quality fertility care.
Established in 1980, IHR has long been a pioneer in reproductive medicine in Northeast India.
In 1995, it made history by performing the region’s first successful IVF procedure under the leadership of the late Dr. M.L. Goenka.
Since then, the institute has remained at the forefront of fertility treatment, offering comprehensive solutions to thousands of couples.
Currently led by Dr Deepak Goenka, Director and Senior Fertility Specialist, IHR has completed over 30,000 IVF cases.
Dr Goenka’s commitment to combining scientific innovation with compassionate care has earned the institute recognition from patients across the country and abroad.
With its newly acquired certifications, IHR is now officially authorized to operate as a full-spectrum fertility center, including services related to ART procedures, donor gamete banking, and surrogacy arrangements — all within a legally regulated framework.
This milestone underscores IHR’s continued leadership in advancing reproductive health services in the region.
