GUWAHATI, Feb 12: A 42-year-old Assamese woman has successfully undergone treatment for a rare case of Leptospira Endometriosis at Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru. The patient, identified as Ketki (name changed), had been suffering from fever, breathing difficulties, anemia, abdominal pain, and urinary issues for over a month.
Despite multiple hospital visits, her condition worsened due to an abscess caused by a Leptospira infection, a bacterial disease transmitted through contaminated water, soil, or animal urine. After a thorough medical evaluation, doctors diagnosed her with Leptospira Endometriosis, a rare condition in which the infection leads to complications in the uterus. A 14 cm pus-filled cyst and a mass in her ovary were detected, necessitating immediate surgical intervention.
Dr. Manisha Singh, Senior Consultant in Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine at Fortis Hospital, led the medical team in performing a laparoscopic surgery. “The patient arrived in a critical condition. Given the severity of her endometriosis, which had developed into an abscess due to the infection, laparoscopic surgery was the most effective option. This minimally invasive procedure allowed us to remove the infected fallopian tubes and ovaries, preventing further complications and ensuring a faster recovery,” she said. The surgery, which lasted approximately an hour, successfully eliminated the infected areas, restoring the patient’s health.
Akshay Oleti, Business Head of Fortis Hospitals Bengaluru, emphasized the hospital’s commitment to advanced medical care. “This case highlights our expertise in managing rare and complex conditions. The successful treatment of Leptospira Endometriosis showcases our dedication to providing cutting-edge healthcare solutions.”
Following the procedure, the patient was discharged two days later in stable condition, marking another milestone in Fortis Hospital’s record of handling rare medical cases with precision and care.
