New Delhi, March 6: In a ceremony held in New Delhi on Wednesday, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, bestowed the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowships and Awards for the years 2022 and 2023.
Five individuals from Assam, Dulal Roy, Karuna Borah, Gunakar Devgoswami, and Bhaben Borbayan were among the honorees. In her address, President Murmu underscored the significant societal role of art, citing its use as a creative expression and a tool for social change.
She also highlighted the potential of art in addressing mental health concerns such as stress and depression, attributing these issues to an overemphasis on materialistic pursuits over spiritual fulfillment.
The President lauded the Sangeet Natak Akademi for its seven-decade-long efforts in promoting various art forms and preserving India’s rich cultural heritage. She extended her congratulations to all the awardees, expressing confidence in their continued contributions to India’s diverse artistic tradition.
