New Delhi, Feb 8: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented a ‘White Paper on the Indian Economy’ in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. The paper, tabled by the Finance Ministry, detailed the economic condition when the current government took over in 2014, describing it as a crisis situation marked by economic mismanagement, financial indiscipline, and widespread corruption.
The paper stated that the economy has now been stabilised and is on a growth path. The White Paper aims to inform the public about the economic and fiscal crises during the takeover in 2014, communicate the government’s policies and actions aimed at rejuvenating the economy, generate a debate on the importance of national interest and fiscal responsibility, and commit to national development.
The 47-page document ended by stating that the government has successfully overcome the challenges left behind by the previous government, but there are still miles to go. In her Interim Budget address, Sitharaman announced that the government would release a detailed report on the economy to highlight the economic mismanagement during the 10-year period of UPA rule until 2014.
