SENAPATI, APRIL 1 (NNN): The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has decided to lend its support to the agitation of the All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur (ATSUM) in the hill districts from April 3.

The ANSAM said on Saturday that it was perturbed by the “gross violation of the quantum of reservation for STs, SCs and OBCs in the recently declared result for appointment of LDC in RIMS vide no B/3222/208-RIMS dated 03/03/2023 by RIMS authority”.

In a statement, the Naga student body said that, as per the department of personnel and training (DoPT), government of India, vide DoPT OM No 36017/2/2004-Estt.(Res) dated 05/07/2005, the quantum of reservation, which is generally fixed in proportion to the population of the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes in the respective UTs/states, in which 3% for SC, 34% for ST and 13% for OBC is fixed for the state of Manipur. Reservation for UR was fixed at 50%, while also ensuring that the total reservation for SCs, STs and OBCs should not exceed the limit of 50% in any case. “But much to our consternation and in complete defiance of the directive of DoPT for reservation of posts for scheduled tribes (ST), RIMS authority deliberately violated the reservation quantum in the recently declared LDC recruitment result. This is highly condemnable as it amounts to depriving the constitutional rights of the tribal of Manipur,” the ANSAM added.

Observing the “non-implementation” of quantum of reservation for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward classes in case of direct recruitment to Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ posts in a central institute is a violation of the rights of the tribal people, the ANSAM, with regards to the recently declared LDC recruitment result, called for immediate nullification of the result and rectify the result by complying with the order No. M/1/2019-RIMS (49) dated May 21 2022 where 34 percent has to be reserved for STs.

It then stated, “Considering the deliberate and exploitative act of RIMS authority against the tribal community as serious, the ANSAM, therefore, is constrained to ask the concerned authority for immediate nullification of the recently declared LDC exam result”.

Supporting the call for agitation from April 3, 2023 by the All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur (ATSUM) over “this deliberate violation” of reservation rules, the ANSAM has decided to render whatever is necessary for “defending the rights given by the Constitution”.
