Assam Rifles recovers narcotics worth Rs 2.31 crore

IMPHAL, Oct 31 (NNN): Assam Rifles has recovered narcotics worth over Rs 2.31 crore in the international market from the forest area of Duthang village in Chandel district of Manipur.

The recovered narcotics included 4.280 kg of WY tablet and 154 gm of brown sugar. Two suspected drug smugglers who carried the narcotics, however, escaped taking advantage of the thick forest, IGAR (South) said in a press release on Monday.

The statement also said that the troops launched an operation based on specific input regarding the movement of narcotics items near Duthang village.

The troops observed suspicious movement of two individuals carrying a bag, who on being challenged, fled in the thick forest.

On thorough search of the forest, the troops recovered a black bag containing WY tablets in four plastic bundles weighing 4.280 kg and brown sugar weighing 154 grams approximately.

The seized narcotics were assessed to be worth Rs 2.31 crore in the international market, the press release also said.

The recovered narcotics items were handed over to Tengnoupal police station for further investigation, it added.
