ITANAGAR, April 25: The Itanagar Capital Complex Administration, in coordination with the Highway Administration, continued its eviction drive for the third consecutive day on Thursday. The initiative also aims to raise awareness among citizens about abiding by laws, particularly regarding the Right of Way (RoW).
The drive on Thursday was conducted under the supervision of Itanagar EAC and Executive Magistrate Tamo Dada, SDPO Kengo Dirchi, and OC of Itanagar Police Station, Inspector Kiksi Yangfo. Capital Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Highway Administrator Talo Potom later joined the operation, which extended up to Gohpur Tinali. The eviction activity began early in the day from 6 Kilo and continued until the afternoon.
Speaking to the media, DC Talo Potom clarified, “This is not just an eviction drive; it is also an awareness campaign, especially targeted at building owners who repeatedly violate advisories and rules meant for public safety. Many shopkeepers and property owners deliberately place their goods outside, obstructing pedestrian paths and hindering traffic flow.”
He stressed the importance of maintaining a clean and obstruction-free Right of Way. “This will continue until all stakeholders understand its importance. Almost every other day, VIPs, VVIPs, top bureaucrats, and even foreign or state guests travel through NH-415 via Hollongi. Therefore, it is crucial that the highway remains free of any nuisances,” the DC added.
Highlighting other concerns, Potom stated, “Despite repeated advisories, some meat shops continued to operate in unhygienic conditions along the highway. On the third day of the drive, we dismantled and removed several such unauthorized establishments.”
He urged the residents to take shared responsibility for the city’s cleanliness. “Itanagar belongs to all of us. Everyone must contribute to keeping it clean. The Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) is working diligently on garbage disposal, but citizens must ensure that construction materials and shop items are not placed on the RoW.”
DC Potom issued a firm warning: “Despite repeated notices and advisories, some still create obstructions. We are removing temporary structures, including unauthorized meat and butcher shops. The eviction drive will continue, regardless of administrative changes.”
