RESUBELPARA, Oct 12: Free Medical check – up, gifts distribution and awareness on various legal rights of the elderly marked the celebration of International Day of Older Persons at Raja Apal in North Garo Hills on Wednesday.
Organised by the office of district social welfare officer in tandem with district legal services authority, Resubelpara benefitted the elderly participants above 60 years of age who were delighted to have participated in the programme and gained information on legal rights, viz., old-age welfare schemes, medical treatment for aged, pension scheme among other social welfare schemes.
Addressing the gathering during the programme, Dr C M Sangma, Medical & Health officer, Resubelpara CHC highlighted the importance of the programme wherein she spoke sideline with the theme “Resilience of older persons in a changing world”. She said the strong ability of the elderly to cope with the changing times and advancement in health care services their longevity has been increased according to various health researches, she opined.
Dr C M Sangma also exhorted the participants to inculcate the habits of healthy eating and exercise in their daily lives along with regular health checkup so as to enable them to have a sound health.
Advocate Bianca K Marak, DLSA spoke on free legal aid services and senior citizen act. She urged the participants in need of legal help to avail legal aid services which are being provided free of cost.
