IMPHAL, May 6 (NNN): Manipur police on Thursday busted yet another motor vehicle workshop allegedly run by vehicle lifters and indulged in modification of stolen vehicles.
A special police commando team of Manipur police also arrested a person allegedly involved in the modification of the stolen vehicles. He has been identified as Meghajit Singh of Kongba Ucheckon Khunou, Imphal East district.
Police said that the special police commando unit, Khabeisoi, busted the workshop run by vehicle lifters at Kongba Ucheckon Khunou based on disclosure made by Meghajit who was arrested earlier during a search operation at Porompat Pangal Leirak. According to police, the arrested person admitted that he was involved in modifying stolen vehicles of two-wheelers at a secret workshop in Kongba Ucheckon Khunou along with one of his colleagues Dinesh Singh.
During the raid at the workshop, the police commandos recovered two two-wheelers – one Access chassis (black), one Activa chassis (silver) – different accessories parts of two-wheelers, police added.
This is the second time in less than 48 hours that Manipur police busted motor workshops allegedly run by vehicle lifters, specially for modification of stolen vehicles.
On Wednesday, a team of the same special commando unit while conducting a search operation at the Kongba area arrested two persons – Laishram Ibungo Singh (27) and Pangambam Dinesh Singh (35), both of them are residents of Kongba Ucheckon, police said. In a follow up action, the police team conducted a search at the house of Dinesh Singh and recovered one laptop, two android mobile phones, one apache two-wheeler and numerous vehicle engines, allegedly used in the modification of stolen two-wheelers.
Manipur police has been conducting, under Anti Vehicles Theft Cell, a special drive against vehicle lifters in the last few days.
The drive was conducted in the backdrop of increasing missing of vehicles, particularly two-wheelers in the state, particularly in Imphal areas.
