IMPHAL, Oct 7: Three persons were arrested with a huge quantity of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in two separate operations on Thursday as Manipur police continued its intensified drive against what it called illicit liquor.
Even though the Manipur government had decided to lift partially the prohibition on liquor, the same is yet to be officially enforced, pending amendment or repeal of the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991.
Taking seriously the open sale of the liquor, both IMFL and DIC (distilled indigenous country liquor) ahead of the official legalization, the chief minister had recently instructed the police to conduct a special drive against illicit liquor.

In the continuing drive, a team of Bishnupur district police commandos seized 648 boxes of different brands of IMFL from a truck during a check in front of Bishnupur forest check gate along Tiddim Road on Thursday morning.
The police estimated the seized liquor worth over Rs 30 lakh.
Following the detection of the illicit liquor, the police arrested the driver of the truck identified as Md Ajij Khan and the owner of the liquor identified as Rupesh Kumar.
The truck entering the state through Jiribam was heading towards Churachandpur, the police alleged.
The seized items were handed over to the Excise department for further legal action, the police added.
Police in Jiribam district also arrested a driver after 201 boxes of IMFL were found carrying in the truck he was driving.
The district police on frisking and checking along the NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam section) at Leingangpokpi police outpost intercepted the illicit liquor during checking the loaded truck proceeding toward Imphal.
The truck originated from Silchar of Assam. The police personnel conducted the check on suspicious behavior of the driver, the police source said.
The police also detained the driver of the truck later identified as Vikaskumar Tiwari and handed over him along with the seized items to Jiribam Excise station for further necessary legal action, the police said. (NNN)
