IMPHAL, JAN 18: Representatives of Ima Market and Imagi Meira called on Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan in Imphal recently and informed her on the law and order situation in Moreh where “security personnel of state forces were supposedly killed by miscreants and the continuous attack towards state forces,” a statement from the Raj Bhavan said. They “sternly” urged the Governor to give the charge of Unified Command to the chief minister of Manipur and also requested for sending additional state forces to the border town to subside the aggravated situation, the statement also said.
Later in the evening, former chief minister, O Ibobi Singh along with other Congress leaders called on the Governor and briefed on the damage of public properties and loss of many innocent lives since the outbreak of the “ethnic strife” in May last year and also informed on the violence in Moreh, the Raj Bhavan added. They conveyed that the public in Thoubal areas have announced to march towards Moreh if additional state forces are not deployed and the inaction of the central forces. The Congress team also urged the Governor for immediate intervention of the Governor to control the situation.
Governor Anusuiya Uikey heard their grievances and said that she was informed of the stringent security arrangements that have been put in place, and more central security forces will be sent by Thursday morning. She appealed to the visiting team to co-operate and support every step taken up to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
Earlier, M Tombi, president of Shiv Sena, Manipur Unit along with 7 others called on the Governor and discussed about the “continuous unrest situation” in Manipur. The team further urged the Governor on the changeover of the Unified Command chairmanship to the state government. They also requested that the Prime Minister and the Home Minister visit to Manipur and bring amicable solution between the communities in conflict that started since May, 2023.
The Governor stated her empathy towards the concerns and problems faced by the people due to the unrest and suggested for concerted efforts to restore peace and normalcy soon. (NNN)
