Meghalaya woman beaten viciously with sticks, publicly dragged over extramarital affair allegations in viral video

GUWAHATI, June 27: A case has been filed by the police after a woman in Meghalaya was subjected to a brutal assault, being beaten with sticks and dragged by four men.

The reason behind this violent act was an accusation of her involvement in an extramarital affair. The incident gained widespread attention when a video of the assault went viral.

The incident occurred in the Lower Teksagre vicinity within the Dadenggre area of West Garo Hills district.

The video circulating on social media shows a man hitting a woman with a stick and pulling her along the ground by her hair.

In the video, several additional males are seen using sticks to strike the woman and delivering kicks while she is positioned on the ground in a public setting.

A crowd consisting of villagers, including women, elderly men, and children, gathered to witness the brutal act of her being beaten and dragged on the ground.

As per reports, five individuals were taken into custody by law enforcement following the registration of a case under the appropriate legal provisions.

According to police officials, the suspect claimed that the woman was engaged in an extramarital relationship.

In the meantime, Sutnga Saipung MLA, Santa Mary Shylla, Chairperson of the Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment, requested a report from the police.

She also mentioned her intention to urge the Superintendent of Police in all 12 districts of Meghalaya to stay vigilant against any form of crime targeting women.
