Mokokchung DC orders physical verification of all firearms

DIMAPUR, Feb 25: Mokokchung deputy commissioner & district election officer Ajit Kumar Verma has issued an order for the mandatory physical verification of all firearms and ammunition within the district.

The DC said the order has been issued to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for the upcoming bye-election to the 28-Koridang assembly constituency.

Invoking Section 21 of the Arms Act, 1959, the DC has directed all arms license holders under the Mokokchung district to report to their nearest police station.

He said licensees must present their arms/ammunition and license booklets for physical verification during office hours on or before March 20.

To ensure strict monitoring, officers-in-charge of police stations concerned have been asked to furnish daily reports in the prescribed format through Mokokchung Sr Superintendent of Police.

These reports will detail the serial number, license holder’s name, license number, UIN No, type of arms & number, last renewal date and number of ammunition available.
