Aizawl, April 28: In a significant development against drug trafficking, the Special Narcotic Police and Assam Rifles collaboratively seized a large amount of heroin in Mizoram. The operation was carried out in the North Tuikuwal area of Aizawl, resulting in the confiscation of 110 boxes of heroin, amounting to 1.206 kg.
The heroin was discovered in a secret compartment of a Verna vehicle with registration number MZ 01E-0135 during a search operation. Local police estimate the value of the seized heroin to be Rs 36,18,000, while Assam Rifles price it at Rs 8.44 crore in the international market.
The driver of the vehicle and a Myanmar national named Vanbiakhanin were arrested on charges of heroin trafficking. Vanbiakhanin, a resident of Tamu district in Myanmar, admitted to illegally entering India without proper documentation.
A case under Section 21(C)/25 of NDPS Act and section R/W 14A of the Foreigners Act 1946 for illegally entering India has been registered against the arrested individual at the Special Narcotics Police Station in Aizawl.
