DIMAPUR, Oct 1: A day ahead of the nationwide cleanliness drive, Nagaland carried out the exercise on
Saturday as October 1 falls on Sunday, a day of worship for the Christian majority state.
Governor La Ganesan led the mega cleanliness drive called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Raj
Bhavan and the areas in and around its vicinity.
In his message, Ganesan said cleanliness can prevent most of the major health problems as it is next to
godliness.
He urged the people to maintain cleanliness in their homes, surroundings and streets to protect
themselves from diseases.
Stating that this cleanliness drive is only a symbolic one, Ganesan called upon the denizens to make
cleanliness a habit and part of their daily lifestyle.
Officers and staff of Raj Bhavan, Kohima DC Shanavas C, Kohima Municipal Council administrator
Lanusenla L Peseyie, among others, joined the cleanliness drive which started at 6 am.
Keeping in line with the directives from the state government, the cleanliness drive was carried out in all
the wards/colonies and business establishments in the capital town under the supervision of Kohima
Municipal Council.
The ward panchayats, Sector Sanitation Committee, security personnel, school students and the public
participated in the exercise.
Joining the rest of the districts in the state, the Wokha district administration organised a mass
social/cleanliness drive in Wokha town.
Deputy chief minister Y Patton joined the district administration, various offices of the district, public
and political parties in the mass cleanliness drive.
Patton thanked all the participants and urged them to keep their respective surroundings clean on daily
practices.
He also visited the Wokha SP office and joined the jawans in the cleanliness drive.
Dimapur, Tuensang, Phek, Zunheboto, Niuland, Tening, Medziphema, Tizit and Meluri, among other
parts of the state, also carried out the exercise on the day.
