Nagaland: Landslide at coal mine claim lives of 6 from Assam, several others injured

Dimapur, Jan 25: In a tragic incident reported on Thursday, at least six coal mine workers from Assam were killed in a landslide at a colliery in the border town of Merapani, Nagaland.

The workers were engaged in mining activities when the mishap occurred, causing their unfortunate deaths. Another four labourers were injured in the incident and are currently in critical condition.

Three of the deceased have been identified as Majibur Ali, Kamal Chetry, and Bishal Thapa. All six victims were residents of Sonapur, under Sarupathar in the Dhansiri sub-division of Assam’s Golaghat district. The incident took place in a coal mine located in Nagaland’s Risayan, which employs over 10 labourers.

The injured workers were immediately taken to a hospital in Dimapur, Nagaland. Merapani, where the incident took place, is a subdivision of Golaghat district in Assam and Nagaland, with half of it in Wokha district of Nagaland and the other half in Golaghat. Further details are awaited.
