DIMAPUR, Feb 28(NNN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), the main ruling coalition partner of the Nagaland government, claimed today that, apart from a few stray incidents, the election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly held on February 27 was one of the most peaceful ones in recent history of Nagaland for which the party thanked each and every member of the State. The NDPP also appreciated the “contributions of the church, tribal hohos, civil society organizations and NGOs in ensuring Clean Election”. The party also thanked each and every individual as well as organization who have been praying incessantly for the successful and peaceful conduct of the elections.

The NDPP also congratulated the Election Commission of India, the entire State machinery headed by the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police for the successful conduct of the general elections of 2023. “The exemplary sacrifices of the administration, the police force, the various election officials and the members of the Central Paramilitary and other State police forces in ensuring the smooth conduct of the entire election process is highly commendable,” it also stated, adding, “It was because of all their concerted efforts that the general elections of 2023 could be conducted in a free and fair manner”.
The NDPP also conveyed its gratitude and appreciation to all the voters of Nagaland for coming forward and exercising their universal adult franchise to vote for their respective candidates. “The State witnessed a record voter turnout of 84.69% which demonstrates the people’s belief in democracy and the democratic process of choosing their leaders,” it also said. The NDPP also congratulated all the first time voters who have come forward to exercise their rights.
The NDPP also expressed its gratitude to all the political parties for participating in the elections by setting up their respective candidates and ensuring that the banner of democracy is lifted high. “This election was perhaps the first time that Nagaland saw a record of 13 political parties including independents participating. This speaks volumes of how the State has matured politically over the last 59 years since the first general elections of 1964,” it added.
