IMPHAL, Jan 4: Leaders of the opposition parties in Manipur said the incumbent BJP-led government in Manipur should be held responsible for the ethnic violence in the state that has claimed lives of around 200 people.
Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club in Imphal on Thursday, leaders of the opposition bloc informed that like other constituent parties, CPI(M) Manipur State Council and Shiv Sena (UTB), Manipur unit have also submitted separate affidavits regarding the ongoing ethnic conflict to the Commission of Inquiry (Manipur violence).
Speaking at the press conference, CPI(M) Manipur State Council secretary, Ksh Santa said that the incumbent BJP-led government in the state should be held responsible for the violence unfolding in the state and compensate for the loss Manipur suffered.

In the affidavits, Santa said, the parties accused the incumbent government for the violence while alleging that loose administration of the incumbent government and bureaucrat officers were behind the outbreak of the violence.
Chief minister N Biren Singh himself had admitted that the violence erupted out of intelligence lapses on the part of the state government, he said.
Lives of more than 200 people have been lost besides torching over 5000 houses in the ongoing violence conflict. The violence also affected over 500 villages, he said.
Even after eight months since the violence broke out on May 3 last year, people living in the peripheral areas of the violence affected districts are living with fear and anxiety, Santa added.
He said that the large-scale loss of lives and damages caused by the violence could have been prevented if the chief minister and officers were serious enough in dealing with the crisis at the initial stage.
The CPI(M) leader also came down heavily on the chief minister for his “repeated blame on the previous government” for the chaos unfolding in the state.
He said that CM N Biren Singh should remember that he was in the previous 15 years rule of the Congress government as Congress legislator.
In short, he has been part of the government in the state for the last 25 years, he pointed out.
Besides, the BJP has been in power at the Centre for the last 10 years and seven years in the state. If the party has a strong concern for the border state, the border fencing might have been completed in such a long period, he said.
Leaders of other political parties also attended the press conference and spoke on the chronology of the events, causes of conflict in Manipur and fixing of responsibility as mentioned in the affidavits the parties had submitted to the Commission of Inquiry (Manipur violence). (NNN)
