DIPHU, Sept 22: In protest against the ‘give and take policy’ adopted by both Assam and Meghalaya while signing the pact pertaining six disputed areas, the Karbi Students Association (KSA- Jemson Timung), Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong (KNCA) and Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) on Thursday jointly organised a sit-in-demonstration at Umlapher under Chinthong constituency in West Karbi Anglong.
General secretary of ASDC Jotson Bey said, “There should be no chaos in Karbi Anglong in the name of transferring of land to Meghalaya and we should not bring any communal clash in the bordering areas as Karbi, Nepali, Khasi-Jaintia, Kharwang and Tiwa are living together since time immemorial. According to a section of newspapers, a few Khasi Kharwang leaders from Karbi Anglong have approached the Meghalaya government to transfer land to Meghalaya.”
Bey also requested the leaders of Khasi-Jaintia and Khasi-Kharwang living in Karbi Anglong not to approach the Meghalaya government on the matter of transferring land to Meghalaya.
“We also submitted a memorandum to the chief minister of Assam regarding border issues as he has assured us to discuss the matter with all parties.”
