GUWAHATI, Nov 21: In a major boost to healthcare infrastructure in Manipur, the Central Government has approved Rs 104.66 crore under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE) to provide super-specialty healthcare services in remote and hill districts of the state, Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced on Thursday.
Singh highlighted the transformative nature of the initiative, emphasizing that, for the first time, advanced medical facilities such as CT scans, MRIs, ICU services, and super-specialty care will be accessible in hill districts like Chandel, Ukhrul, Jiribam, Senapati, and Tamenglong.
Taking to the micro-blogging site X, Singh stated, “For the first time, hill districts like Chandel, Ukhrul, Jiribam, Senapati, and Tamenglong will have access to advanced medical facilities like CT Scans, MRI, ICU services, and super-specialty care—bringing healthcare closer to home.”
The project will include setting up super-specialty healthcare infrastructure at the District Hospital in Chandel; advanced facilities for Ukhrul and Jiribam districts; comprehensive healthcare services for Senapati and Tamenglong districts.
“Not to mention, the Churachandpur Medical College is already operational, transforming healthcare in the region”, Singh added.
Expressing his gratitude, the Chief Minister further thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, and DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia for their unwavering commitment to the development of Manipur.
He described the initiative as a step toward equitable healthcare, bridging the gap between urban and rural health facilities in the state.
“This recent sanction of ₹104.66 crore under PM-DevINE is a step towards equitable healthcare for all”, Singh further stated.
