KOHIMA, July 10 (NNN): In the Nagaland capital, Kohima, stricter penalties have been announced for the offences on the use of Single Use Plastics (SUP).
In this regard, a joint coordination meeting of the District Task Force and the flying squad team had a meeting on the enforcement of the ban on Single Use Plastics (SUP) in the state capital two days ago.
The meeting deliberated on the use of drinking water bottles at government offices and following the notification from the government, it was decided to enforce the already existing ban on drinking water bottles below 20 liters in government offices in Kohima district as well as government programmes and meetings. It was also decided to enforce the revised penalty, for the first offense of Rs. 5000, second offense of 10,000, and Rs 20,000 for the third offense.
Kohima Municipal Corporation (KMC) was also advised to intensify the checking in the jurisdiction of Kohima to ban the use of SUP, and to encourage the use of paper carry bags.
The sub-divisions were also requested to initiate awareness programmes for sensitizing the masses and set up action plans to discourage the use of SUP. The meeting also decided to intensify the checking of the wholesale marketers and the printing press printing flex banners.
