IMPHAL, March 19(NNN): Three alleged drug smugglers were arrested with a large quantity of contraband WY tablets on Saturday night in Thoubal district of Manipur.
Police identified the arrested alleged drug smugglers as Md Imtiyazur Rahaman alias Nanao (24), son of Md Nur Rahaman of Lilong Haorou Hangamthabi of Thoubal district, Md Amir Khan (24), son of late Md Lahimuddin of Lilong Yangbi Boroi Makhong of Thoubal district and Md Abdur Wahid (36), son of Md Nasir Ahamed of Keikhu Makha Leikai of Imphal East district.
A combined team of Imphal East police commandos and Lilong police station of Thoubal district arrested them after 50,000 pieces of WY tablets were recovered from a Maruti Suzuki Eeco van they came with last night, the police said.
The police said that based on specific information, the combined team raided a house at Lilong Haorou under Lilong police station of Thoubal district.
During the raid, the combined team conducted checks on two four-wheelers including the Eeco van parked at the courtyard of the house.
When the three persons gave strong intervention upon checking the vehicles, on suspicion, the police picked them up along with the two vehicles and conducted checks on the vehicles in the presence of executive magistrate and independent witnesses.
The police discovered a carry bag hidden in the engine chamber of the Eeco van and when they opened it WY tablets packed in five packets were found, the police also said.
On spot verification, the police revealed that the trio smuggled the illegal drugs from Myanmar through Moreh. The drugs were meant for transporting further outside the state, the police said.
The Lilong police formally arrested the trio along with the illegal drugs after registering a case under relevant sections of ND&PS Act, the police added.
