GUWAHATI, Sept 8: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) enthusiastically celebrated the 98th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika, the iconic bard and globally acclaimed singer. Organized by the Cultural Forum of USTM, the event was marked by deep reverence and vibrant participation from the university community.
To honor Dr Hazarika’s legacy, a ceremonial lamp was lit, followed by floral tributes. The occasion featured performances of his timeless compositions by faculty members and students, paying homage to the “Bard of Brahmaputra.”

A highlight of the event was the Bhupendra Sangeet competition, held at the NKC Auditorium, where students from various departments showcased their talents. Simasri Sharma from the Department of English secured the first prize, followed by Swapnanil Kalita from the department of pharmacy in second place, and Kritika Bujarbaruah from the department of business administration in third.
The gathering in the NKC Auditorium concluded with heartfelt addresses by faculty and students, reflecting on Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s profound contributions to music, culture, and humanity.
