Volunteers apprise Manipur Guv of initiatives for children

IMPHAL, Dec 6: A group of volunteers consisting of teachers, doctors, paramedics, social workers from Vishwagram called on Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan here recently and highlighted the activities taken up by their organisation for the children taking shelter in various relief camps in Manipur and for rendering medical checkup of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), a statement from the Raj Bhavan said.

They informed that they have already visited 16 relief camps and engaged with children in creative activities like drawing, card making, toy making, origami, games, music etc. to bring them out from trauma. They informed that their teams checked up IDPs with any health issues and provided medicines too and if they come across a patient with serious health issues, they
contacted a local medical officer for further examination. The team visited four districts- Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal. They have initiated a campaign for collection of books for children in relief camps from Gujarat.

The team further expressed that during their discussion with IDPs, they learnt that many of them would like to take up vocational training to earn their livelihood. As such, the team explored training facilities in various fields in Gujarat and may enroll around 40-50 inmates, for free of cost training for three-
four months in Gujarat.

The Governor, while expressing her appreciation and gratitude to the team for their humanitarian services, stated that healing and mental peace for the children is the need of the hour and encouraged them to take up more such activities that will bring out the children from the trauma experienced from the strife. She reiterated her initiative of extending various relief materials for the displaced people in relief camps. She also encouraged the team to continue their humanitarian services in the strife-hit Manipur. (NNN)
