DIMAPUR, March 17: A gym in Wokha is providing fitness training to the inmates of a rehab centre at Yikhum village, reflecting the growing recognition of the role of fitness during rehabilitation.
Pro Fitness Gym, Wokha, extended its support to Ekhumrhong Rehab Centre, Yikhum village by organising a physical fitness programme for the inmates of the centre on March 16.
The initiative is planned to be conducted for 30 days as part of the centre’s recovery schedule.
The programme is designed for individuals undergoing a 45-day rehabilitation stay.
After 30 days of treatment, fitness exercises are introduced to provide an alternative means of engagement, helping the inmates prevent relapse and avoid returning to old habits.
During recovery, physical fitness is considered vital for confidence building and for overcoming social stigmas, making such training an important component of rehabilitation.
Currently, 11 inmates are staying at the centre, with some expected to be released soon.
The fitness session was led by the director of Ekhumrhong Rehab Centre, Mhabemo Odyuo, who guided the group through exercises aimed at strengthening both physical and mental resilience.
This initiative is aimed at offering structured activities that support recovery, instill discipline and encourage healthier lifestyles.
