Assam Youths Excel In Chennai Athletics Championship

GUWAHATI, May 3: In the 42nd National Master Athletics Championship held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai from April 27 to May 1, 203 Assam athletes of both men and women category belonging to 30 to 85 years age group from different districts of Assam clinched 16 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze, totalling 61 medals.

In the women’s category, Anima Sonowal of 45+ age group and Bilasi Kumsing of 60+ age group received 3 Gold medals in different athletic events.

In the men’s category, Mahananda Sutradhar of 75+ age category received 3 Gold medals in 1500, 5000 and 10000-metre run.  Srimati Mohini Talukdar of 85+ age group received Gold medal in 100 and 200 meter race and Mamti Bordoloi of 30+ received Silver medal in the 400 meter race.

The 42nd National Masters Athletics Championship 2022, Chennai was organized by the Masters Athletic Federation of India, affiliated to the Asian Masters Athletics and the World Master Athletics was attended by more than 3500 athletes competing from across 28 States in India, with a total of 22 Athletic disciplines across 13 age categories, making it the largest athletic competition. Margit Jungmann (Germany) President, World Masters Athletics and Stanley Perkin, (Australia) Life President, World Masters Athletics and other eminent personalities were present in the meet.
